This is an article about plastic pollution and a video to go with it, and at the end there is a Kahoot to test your knowledge!

Plastic Pollution

Plastic pollution is a big problem. Plastic pollution is the accumulation of plastic in the environment. This means that whenever people throw plastic onto the ground the amount of plastic pollution increases. This is because there is now even more plastic in the environment.

Animals like birds can get caught in plastic rings. This can take away the bird's ability to eat. It can also make the animal very uncomfortable. It is important that you do not try to help the animal yourself. Animals can carry diseases and they can also bite or hurt you. What you can do to help the bird is report it to somewhere like a wildlife center to see if they can help.

Although there is a lot of plastic pollution little things can make an impact. You can help reduce the amount of plastic pollution. Recycling is always a good option, but there are other ways to help. One way you can help is to reduce the amount of plastic you get or use. This could be using glass cups instead of plastic, or using cloth bags instead of using the plastic ones at the store. Another way you can help is reuse the plastic that you use. For example washing and reusing plastic utensils.

A way to help remember the ways you can help is the three R’s:

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Vocabulary from this article:

Accumulation- A big amount of something that has increased in size as time has passed

Reduce- To use less of something or to bring the amount of something down

Reuse- To use something again/more than once

Recycle- To turn something that is “trash” and make it into something that you can use
